Y61 GU PATROL RESURRECTION

November 02, 2019

Its not often we work on an older vehicle such as this, but given the owners wish not to let this old girl fade away to a rusty death we were happy to oblige. This build started off with just a simple tray conversion but turned into something much more.

The build began with just a new tray as the owner had intentions to purchase a specific slide-on, pop-up camper and travel Australia. The camper company suggested specific tray dimension and to be made from steel, to suit the campers requirements for perfect fitment.

After seeing some of our previous work, the owner wanted to include an under-tray water tank with 12v pump, rear slide out draw, under-tray alloy toolboxes which included an ARB twin piston compressor and a custom hardwood deck.

After stripping the back end down for a tidy up and new paint job we noticed how bad the cab’s condition was and we offered to have the cab (mainly the roof) the door removed repaired/resprayed and a full body cut and buff. It was looking pretty tired and worried a new brightly painted tray will contrast with the faded paint.

The bull bar looked pretty sad with the old faded paint covered in surface rust and old halogen spot lights & broken blinkers so we removed the bull bar, rubbed it back and applied Raptor Liner (polyurethane stone guard) resulting in a rejuvenated new looking bar, and topped off with some LED spot lights and new LED blinker/parkers.

Once we re-installed the bull bar, the front flares look out of place as they were faded to grey plastic. A quick confirmation from the owner and we got the nod to Raptor Liner the bottom of the door sills, the inside bottom door jambs and the front flares, and topped off with some vinyl wrapping on the doors.

Whilst the tray was being fitted, the owner popped in for nosey, and saw an LC-79 we had at the shop sporting a Rhino Rack roof platform fitted with a LED light bar up front and some smaller light bars under the side eaves working on an external switch. We did say, the Patrol looked like it was missing something, and this was it.
